Today was a test of willpower. Sure, it's easy enough to get up early and get to the gym by 8:30 (which I did), then do a 2.5 mile warmup on the treadmill (which I did), then do an hour of a killer strength workout including stepups on the plyo box and front, back, and side lunges, chest, shoulders, biceps, triceps, core and back (which I did). The hard part was squeezing in the rest of the run.
For the first time at this gym, I couldn't get on a treadmill. What's that? People are using the treadmill to walk??? While they catch up on gossip? While I'm standing there, dressed to run, obviously with limited time? I did 5 minutes on the eliptical while I waited then when I got on the treadmill, after only three minutes of running, I realized I wouldn't have time to get home, shower, make Sarah's bun and lunch, and get her to ballet rehearsal in time, so I jumped back off and went home.
Then the grocery called. I have been dressed to run all day so off I went to the grocery in my tights. Nice.
But I'm happy to say, I did get some kind of a run in. Not a pretty one. My heartrate was all over the place, I stopped to talk to a neighbor. I stopped to adjust the strap which had slid down to my stomach. I walked some. But I managed four more miles bringing today's total to 6.5. My average heartrate was 150; average pace 10:20. I attribute it to the hard workout this morning and too much rest in between workouts.
Onward!
